Well, the race for the White House is definitely in full swing and so is the mud-slinging. No surprise there as that is part of politics. Interestingly, the Obama camp is really struggling to find something… ANYTHING to pin on Mitt Romney. This week the Obama campaign has made allegations against Governor Romney regarding his time with Bain Capital. Obviously in a desperate attempt (since they love class warfare so much) to portray Romney as an evil, rich Capitalist who is certainly out of touch with “real-life folks”. As if Obama were in touch or even <cough, cough> cared about the rest of us.
What are the allegations? Obama’s camp is making various claims regarding the outsourcing of jobs and shutting down a steel factory among other things. They even go so far as to suggest that Governor Romney commited a crime. By all accounts, Romney left Bain Capital in February of 1999 to run the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics. However, there are various filings with the SEC up until 2001 which clearly show Mitt Romney listed as CEO, President and Managing Director of Bain Capital. CNN reports that Obama’s legal counsel goes so far as to say that the SEC filings ‘under normal circumstances will trigger a possible investigation into possible civil as well as criminal violations of the law’.
Governor Romney would like an apology from Obama and rightly so.
Romney spokesperson Andrea Saul says to CNN: “The article is not accurate. As Bain Capital has said, as Governor Romney has said, and as has been confirmed by independent fact checkers multiple times, Governor Romney left Bain Capital in February of 1999 to run the 2002 Olympics and had no input on investments or management of companies after that point.”
CNN contacted Bain Capital, speaking with four current or former Bain officials. Three are Democrats, two of which are current Obama supporters. All four people were at Bain while Romney was. All four say that Romney did leave in Feb of 1999 for the Olympics. He was never involved in any capacity with Bain after that. So all four Bain people (don’t forget that two support Obama 2012) say that the Obama campaign accusations ARE NOT TRUE.
So what about the SEC filings after 1999 with Romney’s name and title? The documents took time to file and there was no hurry to do so. The bottom line is Mitt Romney made no calls, made no hiring decisions or investment decisions after leaving Bain Capital.
What does all this mean? Obviously the Obama camp is trying to throw mud on Mitt Romney’s character, which is typical in politics. They’re trying to paint Romney as un-trustworthy. I find this rather humorous when looking at who is saying this to whom. This is also a big diversion tactic. Remember the ‘Great and Powerful Oz’ in ‘The Wizard of Oz’? “I’m the great and powerful Oz… but don’t look behind the curtain.” We have trillions of dollars of debt racked up by Obama. We have very high unemployment, obscene gas and food prices, foreclosures, the destruction of middle-class America to start with. But, don’t look at any of that. ‘Don’t look behind the curtain. Let’s look at this Romney character who wants to be President. Let’s find something rotten about him to discuss’.
OK. Well, let’s take this outsourcing of jobs issue and let’s turn the tables. Out of the trillions of dollars of debt Obama has set up for the American people, billions of that have gone to create jobs that were outsourced to other countries! Oh yes! Our hard-earned taxpayer dollars. A company in Switzerland received $50 million in stimulus for their ‘Smart Grid Meters’. But wait, there is more! $29 Billion to be exact. Sent to South Korea, Denmark, Finland, China… the list goes on. While your job may be gone, your house is in foreclosure and you can’t make your car payment!
I encourage you to look at this very informative website detailing all of Obama’s outsourcing:
Regarding the rest of Obama’s claims against Romney, you might like watching this brief segment from MSNBC where Andrea Mitchell fumbles through her interview with former NH Governor and Romney supporter, John Sununu. It is quite amusing.
It is time to get very serious about the state of things. People are hurting. Lives are being destroyed. Our Liberty is in jeopardy. Do we want another four years of someone who has made a mockery of our Constitution and saddled us with monumental debt? Or what about someone who has been very successful in the business world, knows how to manage, run and excel at business, who has many years of political experience, solid morals and a clean record? My vote is absolutely for Mitt Romney. ~~Sister Patriot
